medtronic rif 2023: ERCP and EUS Linda S. Lee, 2015-06-13 This text provides a comprehensive review of ERCP and EUS and the clinical conditions for which they are employed. Presented in a case-based format with accompanying videos, it will serve as a valuable practical clinical resource for gastroenterologists with an interest in ERCP and EUS. The text highlights major techniques involved in ERCP, reviews complications and recent data on preventing post-ERCP pancreatitis, and discusses important issues in training in ERCP including use of endoscopic simulators and assessment of competency as emphasized in the new ACGME guidelines. For biliary diseases, new techniques for managing biliary stones, novel technologies for diagnosing indeterminate biliary strictures, and new devices for treating benign and malignant strictures are also highlighted. For pancreatic diseases, advances in minimally invasive endoscopic techniques for pancreatic stones and strictures, and management of the complications of pancreatitis are reviewed. Furthermore, ERCP is not limited by age, pregnancy or history of abdominal surgeries and special considerations particular to these patient populations are also discussed. The EUS chapters review the breadth of equipment available for performing EUS and EUS-FNA, detail the technique of performing EUS-FNA, and explore pertinent issues with training and assessing competency analogous to ERCP training. Valuable insights on the basics of cytopathology relevant to the endosonographer are summarized. The classic indication for EUS of staging luminal cancers is examined in detail while pancreaticobiliary indications are discussed highlighting newer adjunctive technologies including elastography and contrast-enhanced EUS. Although in its infancy, the brave new world of therapeutic EUS is explored with a focus on endoscopic necrosectomy, EUS-guided biliary and pancreatic access as well as the exciting possibilities of EUS-guided radiofrequency ablation and injection of anti-tumor agents. ERCP and EUS: A Case Based Approach will serve as a very useful resource for physicians who perform or refer patients for ERCP and EUS. medtronic rif 2023: Pericardial Disease J. Soler-Soler, G. Permanyer, J. Sagristà-Sauleda, 2012-12-06 In November 1986, I was invited to attend a symposium held in Barcelona on Diseases of the Pericardium. The course was directed by Dr. J. Soler-Soler, director of Cardiology at Hospital General Vall d'Hebron in Barcelona. During my brief but delightful visit to this institution, my appreciation of the depth and breadth of study into pericardial diseases, carried out by Dr. Soler and his group, grew into the conviction that these clinical investigators have accumulated a wealth of information concerning pericardial diseases, and that investigators and clinicians practicing in English speaking countries would greatly profit from ready access to the results of the clinical investiga tions into pericardial disease carried out in Barcelona. The proceedings of the Barcelona conference were published in a beauti fully executed volume in the Spanish language edited by Dr. Soler and pro duced by Ediciones Doyma. Because I believe that this work should be brought to the attention of the English speaking scientific and clinical com munities, I encouraged Dr. Soler to have the book translated into English. I knew that this task could be accomplished and that the book would be trans lated into good English without change of its content. My confidence was based upon a translation of my own book, The Pericardium, into Spanish undertaken by Dr. Permanyer, who is a contributor and co-editor of the pre sent volume. |
medtronic rif 2023: Teaching Medicine and Medical Ethics Using Popular Culture Evie Kendal, Basia Diug, 2017-10-20 This book demonstrates how popular culture can be successfully incorporated into medical and health science curriculums, capitalising on the opportunity fictional media presents to humanise case studies. Studies show that the vast majority of medical and nursing students watch popular medical television dramas and comedies such as Grey’s Anatomy, ER, House M.D. and Scrubs. This affords us with a unique opportunity to engage and inform not only students but the general public and patients further downstream. This volume analyses examples of medical-themed popular culture and offers various strategies and methods for educators in this field to integrate this material into their teaching. The result is a fascinating read and original resource for medical professionals and teachers alike. |

medtronic rif 2023: Evolve Your Brain Joe Dispenza, 2010-01-01 Why do we keep getting the same jobs, taking on the same relationships, and finding ourselves in the same emotional traps? Dr. Joe Dispenza not only teaches why people tend to repeat the same negative behaviors, he shows how readers can release themselves from these patterns of disappointment. With the dynamic combination of science and accessible how-to, Dispenza teaches how to use the most important tool in ones body and life—the brain. Featured in the underground smash hit of 2004, What the Bleep Do We Know!?, Dispenza touched upon the brain's ability to become addicted to negative emotions. Now, in his empowering book Evolve Your Brain he explains how new thinking and new beliefs can literally rewire one's brain to change behavior, emotional reactions, and habit forming patterns. Most people are unaware of how addicted they are to their emotions, and how the brain perpetuates those addictions automatically. In short, we become slaves to our emotional addictions without even realizing it. By observing our patterns of thought, and learning how to 're-wire the brain' with new thought patterns, we can break the cycles that keep us trapped and open ourselves to new possibilities for growth, happiness and emotional satisfaction. Key Features A radical approach to changing addictive patterns and bad habits. Based on more than twenty years of research. Bridges the gap between science, spirituality and self-help—a formula that has proven success. Easy to understand and written for the average reader. |
medtronic rif 2023: The Peter Principle Dr. Laurence J. Peter, Raymond Hull, 2014-04-01 The classic #1 New York Times bestseller that answers the age-old question Why is incompetence so maddeningly rampant and so vexingly triumphant? The Peter Principle, the eponymous law Dr. Laurence J. Peter coined, explains that everyone in a hierarchy—from the office intern to the CEO, from the low-level civil servant to a nation’s president—will inevitably rise to his or her level of incompetence. Dr. Peter explains why incompetence is at the root of everything we endeavor to do—why schools bestow ignorance, why governments condone anarchy, why courts dispense injustice, why prosperity causes unhappiness, and why utopian plans never generate utopias. With the wit of Mark Twain, the psychological acuity of Sigmund Freud, and the theoretical impact of Isaac Newton, Dr. Laurence J. Peter and Raymond Hull’s The Peter Principle brilliantly explains how incompetence and its accompanying symptoms, syndromes, and remedies define the world and the work we do in it. |
